Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is branded as Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is an American multinational retail store company which is engaged in operating one of the biggest store chains of large discount department stores and warehouse stores. The company has proved to be a tough competitor for Amazon, Target, and EBay etc. in the market. Even though Wal-Mart is one of the biggest companies, the employees and workers of the company are unhappy and disappointed with the way the company has been treating them. Same as last year, the employees of the company planned a protest and it happened.
The workers of the company want the wages to be increased. While millions of shoppers flocked to Wal-Mart stores nationwide on Black Friday, thousands of protesters descended on Wal-Mart’s to protest what they said were the retailer’s low wages. The company workers have demanded to at least raise their pay scale to $15 per hour. People believe that it is very hard on what they are earning at the moment while working for Wal-Mart. At average, most of the employees earn around at $8 per hour rate.
Wal-Mart said that it paid competitive wages and that its employees, full time and part time, averaged nearly $12 an hour. According to New York Times post, “About 300 people rallied Friday morning at a Walmart near Union Station in Washington, while 11 Wal-Mart workers and supporters were arrested on charges of blocking traffic outside a Wal-Mart on West Monroe Street in Chicago.”
In the rallies, there were various placards out which one read “Wal-Mart: Breaking the Promise of America”. However, the company denied and stayed calm even after various protests. It believed that the company is paying competitive wages to its full time or part time workers which averaged around $12 an hour.
